Immunomagnetic Beads


Immunomagnetic Beads can replace or complement many other separation techniques. When coated with primary or secondary antibodies, applications include immunoassay, protein purification, cell separation, cell sorting, and DNA technology. Applications are not limited by the availability of antibodies. Other ligands such as streptavidin, lectins or enzymes can also be attached to the beads to facilitate separation. American Qualex Immunomagnetic Beads are superparamagnetic. They respond to a magnetic field but demagnetize when the field is removed. The paramagnetic property of the beads is important so that the beads can redisperse without clumping. These particles also offer the advantage of a large surface area with a non porous structure. This allows the particles to be separated from the liquid phase easily and rapidly. The beads are 1.3μ in diameter with a magnetite core and a thin polystyrene shell.
